What is a plant-based protein powder?
A plant-based protein powder is, as the name suggests, a protein powder composed of proteins of plant origin to correspond to people who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet. This type of protein has been popular for several years now and is becoming increasingly popular within the sports community. A plant-based protein powder is the perfect alternative to powdered animal proteins like whey, and therefore a way to move away from lactose, a sugar naturally found in milk that many people cannot tolerate.
If you are used to whey or other milk proteins, you will initially be surprised by the texture and taste of vegetable proteins. These powders are indeed very different at the molecular level, making them much thicker in your shaker. On the other hand, on a purely nutritional level, most plant proteins are rich in amino acids and sometimes even as rich as milk proteins (such as soy protein, for example).
